On 10 April 1865, Confederate soldier Vance Reno leads a raid on a Union payroll train, unaware that the Civil War has just ended. On the family farm, his younger brother, Clint, marries Cathy, the woman who was left behind, presuming the elder sibling was killed in action. But when the missing soldier unexpectedly returns home alive—carrying contraband cash to start a new life—he faces a devastating surprise and a heartbreaking dilemma. Determined to sacrifice his own happiness for his family, Vance tries to step aside. Yet as federal agents close in on the stolen war funds, lingering feelings and creeping jealousy take hold—dangerous emotions threatening to tear the Reno brothers apart from within.
