Impossible to ignore, Deke Rivers—a rough-around-the-edges delivery boy with explosive charisma—is discovered by sharp press agent Glenda Markle while performing at a political rally in Delville, Texas. To boost the career of her ex-husband, washed-up country bandleader Tex Warner, Glenda hires Deke to front the struggling country act. As she orchestrates controversy and media hype around the young frontman's provocative performances, Deke's appeal to teenage crowds becomes undeniable, catapulting him into sudden stardom. However, Glenda's aggressive publicity tactics quickly take a toll on Deke. Now torn between fame and his genuine feelings for innocent backup singer Susan, Deke must decide: what will it take to stay true to himself and keep loving her?
